Portway Infant School was opened in 1958. In the current year the maximum children on roll between the ages of 4 and 7 is 270. The maximum number of children in each age group to be admitted to school is 90. Details of the Derby City Council's admission policy are available from the Headteacher.
The building consists of a large hall, six classrooms in the main block, a teaching block with three more classrooms, staff room, Headteacher’s room, office and a kitchen. There is a large playground with a trim trail and pleasant areas of lawns and trees. The school has two secure outdoor play areas for Foundation Stage children.
The school also has a vegetable garden which the children maintain. A scooter shed also means that the children can support the school’s Healthy School status by cycling to school.
