Topic - Starry Night and Winter Wonderland
This topic explores the differences in the world at night compared to during the day. It teaches children about the importance of a good night’s sleep, and helps them to discover what is happening in the world while they are sleeping, including finding out about nocturnal animals.
It also teaches children about the changes that happen during winter, including the types of weather associated with winter. It also explores places that have snow all year round and the types of animals that live there.
Maths - We are teaching the children how to subitise to 6 showing different arrangements. We are also teaching the composition of a number. For example, knowing what numbers make up 5. All maths is very practical and fun through lots of rhymes and talk.
Literacy - We are reading the book 'Penguins' which is a non-fiction text about Penguins living in Antarctica. Our second book is called 'Lost and Found', this books explores the concept of habitats and friendship.
Phonics - We are revisiting phase 3 within our unlocking letters and sounds scheme. We will be applying phase 3 graphemes within sentences to read and write.

It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. This project also teaches children how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.
