At Portway Infant School, our 'Helping Hands' (volunteers) help regularly by:
· hearing children read
· helping the children learn their timetables
· supporting the classteacher in lessons
· chaperoning on school trips or walks round the village
· running extra curricular clubs
We are very grateful to all our 'Helping Hands' as they help not only our children but also the staff too!
If you would like to be a 'Helping Hand' in our school please email us via the online contact form below or
telephone the school office on 01332 550702.
We actively welcome volunteers into school and you can help in a variety of ways. Teachers request help at the beginning of the year and helpers can sign up for a convenient slot. Lots of parents hear children read but also support in class in a variety of ways. When a class goes out on a trip the teacher will also ask for adult helpers too.
It is hoped that the many skills and talents of our parents, grandparents and friends in the community can be used to support our children during 'special' days and weeks such as Design and Technology day or Science Week.
Parents who work alone with children will need to complete a Disclosing and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously CRB). Please ask in the office for further details.
Remember if you help at school - make sure you are aware of the Fire/Emergency Procedures.
Regular help is invaluable and teachers will plan around your support, therefore please try to give as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend. Your support is greatly appreciated.
