Portway Infant School Art and Design Vision

At Portway we teach Art and Design, to deliver skills and knowledge through creative projects and utilising our wonderful school setting. We provide an Art curriculum that immerses pupils in learning that is memorable, engaging and meaningful. The Art curriculum enables our children to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and vocabulary they need to be successful artists.  We follow the National Curriculum and use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination as well as developing a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. Our children learn about the work of a range of artists, both local and internationally renowned, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work, through debate and purposefully chosen vocabulary.  As our projects build and grow, they encourage the children to work individually or collaboratively, using a variety of tools and media with a strong emphasis on enjoyment that supports our children’s personal development ready for their next stage of learning journey.
