Miss Brown - Outstanding Owls
Long term plan
FOREST SCHOOL and PE
Our forest school session will be taught every Monday morning and PE will be taught every Tuesday morning.
Spring 2
Topic: Land of the Dinosaurs and Over the Rainbow
This exciting topic teaches children about the different animals that roamed Earth millions of years ago and how they are related to animals that live on Earth today. We are teaching the children about the weather that happens during spring and allow them to explore natural phenomena, including rainbows. It supports them to explore colour in the natural world.
Through our topic work this term we will be learning …….
Through our topic work this term we will be learning …….
Maths – We are learning about composition, subitisng, counting, cardinality and ordinality. We are also learning about length and comparing objects and materials.
Phonics – We are finishing off the phase 3 mastery block to consolidate our knowledge before we learn phase 4 in the summer term.
Write Stuff – We are learning about the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’ which will focus on different cultures from around the world. We will then learn about ‘Rainbow Fish’ which introduces some lovely vocabulary
Poetry – we will be learning a poem called ‘Dinosaur, Dinosaur’ and performing this in one of our assemblies.
PE – Agility, balance and coordination. We are using the PE cards ‘Underwater explorer’.
PSHE (Personal Social Health Emotional) - Growing up great; we are learning about drug education and diversity.
History - Past and present; we are learning about prehistoric dinosaurs and seasonal changes.
Science and Geography - Understanding the world; we are learning about carnivores and herbivores, volcanoes and waterproof materials.
RE - People and communities; which people are special to you and why?
Computing – saying ‘no’ to something we do not like online and offline. Learning how to program a programmable toy using directions: forwards, backwards, left/right
Art, Music and Design Technology - Expressive arts and design; in art we are learning about sculpture and 3D art based on the artist Chris Drury, and in music we are working our way through the Charanga block ‘My stories!’ We will be playing simple notes on a glockenspiel.
Ways to help at home
- Children must read their school reading book at least 4 times a week to a grown up at home. Books will only be changed when they have read their school book 3 or more times. Ensure you record this in their reading record.
- We recommend you watch the phonics videos at home that teachers send home each week. This will support their learning in school and help them to ‘keep up’ each week.
- We are learning to compare lengths to see which items are longer and shorter. Can you work out which one is longer using the items you may find at home?
- We recommend https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?Subject=16&AgeGroup=1 for some fun maths work.
- In science, we are learning about herbivores and carnivores. You can watch a short video and talk about what foods they eat.
- In Geography, we are learning about dinosaurs. Can you find facts about your favourite dinosaur? Maybe you could draw a large dinosaur and label your facts around it.
- Can you solve these addition sums? 3+2= 8+2= 4+3= 6+4=
- In science we are exploring waterproof materials. On a rainy day, go outside with an umbrella and talk about the water droplets running down the material. Experiment with a sock and see if the same happens.
- We are learning about maps and we will be creating a dinosaur island, including some features you may see on an island. Can you draw a desert island, with appropriate features and think of 4 items you would take to help you survive
- Have fun trying some of these things at home and don’t forget to share what you do on Dojo Portfolio so we can see!
