Miss Spensley - Fantastic Foxes
Have a look at our long term planning for the foundation year.
FOREST SCHOOL and PE
Our forest school session will be taught every Thursday morning and PE will be taught every Tuesday afternoon.
Autumn 1
This half term we will be getting to know everything about your child. We will observe, assess and support your child through each area of development using the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. We will get to know what your child can do independently and what they need help with. The information we collate will give us a starting point for our teaching. We will teach your child within these areas:
- Communication and language
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Physical development (fine and gross motor)
- Mathematics (numbers and patterns)
- Literacy (word reading, comprehension and writing)
- Understanding the world
- Expressive art and design
All schools must undertake a statutory baseline check. This involves a short interactive and practical assessment based on communication and language, maths and early literacy skills. The main purpose is to measure progress from reception to year 6. If you would like to read more about this, please visit our school website>children>class pages>EYFS.
Through our topic work this term we will be learning …….
- Phonics – Our scheme is called ‘Unlocking Letters and Sounds’. We will start teaching phonics w/c 22nd September. We teach one letter Monday-Thursday and Friday will be a consolidation day. Each day we will ask your child to learn the phoneme (letter sound) and write it. More information about phonics will be sent via dojo after we have taught this first week. The class teacher will create a video for you to watch with your child at home so you can consolidate this at home. It is important to use these videos at home so your child can keep up with the pace of our scheme. By the end of the year, the expectation for the early year’s curriculum is to be reading and writing full sentences independently, which will set them up ready for year 1.
- PE – We will be learning the basic fundamental skills in balancing, running, movement and coordination. They will learn how to work as part of a team
- PSHE (Personal Social Health Emotional) – Our 3 golden rules in school are Be ready, Be Safe and Be Respectful. We will be learning what each of these mean and how they can adhere to the rules in school to ensure everyone is safe and happy to learn and most importantly so we can have fun
- RE – We will learn about special people in our lives and places. We will compare a Christening and a Hindu naming ceremony
- Expressive arts and design; we will have fun creating with recycled materials and learn how to use tape to join them together. Please feel free to keep sending in some recycled materials from home.
