Forest School and PE

Our forest school session will be taught every Tuesday afternoon. PE will be taught every Monday and Thursday. 

Spring 2

This term we will be learning …….

Maths - We will be beginning to look at division. We will be developing our confidence and fluency when adding and subtracting two-digit numbers using our understanding of partitioning tens and ones. We will learn the names of a range of 2d and 3d shapes and explore their properties. 

English - We will be taking part in Derby Book Fest along with lots of other schools across Derby. We will get the chance to read and complete work about 3 new picture books and vote on our favourite.

We will be enjoying a variety of books in guided reading sessions each week.

We will have daily handwriting sessions to reinforce correct letter formation and sizing of both lower case and upper-case letters.

Spelling - We will be using the Essential Spelling Scheme to learn about spelling rules and how to spell common exception words.

Science - We will be learning about living things: exploring living, dead and never been alive; learning about the food chain and learning how animals obtain food from plants and other animals.

DT - We will explore moving wheels and axles and apply this knowledge to designing, making and evaluating our own royal train with moving wheels.

History- We will find out what a monarch is and what King Charles III does. Then we will learn about William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings and the castles William had built to defend his power.

Growing up Great - We will be learning all about growing up, including changes that happen, respecting privacy and understanding how we are the same and how we are different.  We will also find out about fire safety from the Fire Service.

Music - When voices or instruments work together to play different pitches that sound at the same time, we can hear harmony in music! We will have fun exploring the voices and instruments used within music to identify how and when harmony takes place.

PE - We will be developing our skills through invasion games- how to attack and defend in sport.

Computing - We will be learning to use yes/ no questions to separate information, construct a binary tree to identify items and use a binary tree data base to answer questions.

RE - We will be finding out how and why we celebrate special and sacred times, focussing on Ramadan and Easter.

Forest school - We will be learning how to safely whittle and how to tie a variety of knots.
