Why we teach through continuous provision?
Why We Use Continuous Provision in Years 1 and 2
At Portway, we believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, confident and inspired. That is why we continue to offer carefully planned continuous provision in Years 1 and 2, building on the successful learning experiences children have enjoyed in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Continuous provision provides children with opportunities to explore, practise and apply their learning through purposeful, hands-on experiences. Alongside high-quality teaching, it encourages curiosity, independence, creativity and problem-solving, helping children develop the skills they need to become confident lifelong learners.
Our approach is deeply rooted in our school values of Well-being, Harmony and Nurture.
Well-being is supported by creating an environment where children feel secure, valued and motivated to learn. Children are encouraged to make choices, take risks in their learning and develop resilience when faced with challenges.
Harmony is developed through opportunities to play, collaborate and learn together. Children learn to communicate effectively, share ideas, respect different viewpoints and build positive relationships with others.
Nurture lies at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Continuous provision allows us to respond to children's individual interests, strengths and needs, ensuring that all learners are supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their potential.
