Uniform
We do have a school dress code based on the school colour; red, teamed with grey (or black for PE*) trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore with a white T-shirt or blouse.
We have sweatshirts and cardigans with the school logo on and these can be purchased from Morley's or Loop Wear in Derby. These are not compulsory and a plain red jumper or cardigan is acceptable.
All items of school clothing, including coats and book bags must be clearly marked with your child’s name.

Pre-loved Uniform
Re-using uniform is a great way to save money, conveniently obtain uniform items and is beneficial for the environment. It also provides an easy and ethical way of clearing out cupboards. Our aim is to provide quality uniforms on an affordable 'pay what you can' basis. Any money raised goes to the Friends of Portway Infants fundraising team and is used to buy new resources for the children.
Our uniform bank was set up a couple of years ago now, and we have been astounded by the generosity of the Portway community who have donated clothing/accessories for the pre-loved school uniform project. We now have a selection of clean uniform and PE kit – including trousers, summer dresses, pinafores, shirts/polo shirts, jumpers, cardigans, tights, and some shoes/trainers, socks.
Simply pop into the school office to request any items you may need, and we will check our stock accordingly.
Jewellery
In the interests of safety, jewellery should not be worn in school. A simple analogue watch is acceptable.
Earrings
If your child has pierced ears, then a single stud is acceptable. However, even studs may cause problems, especially during a P.E. lesson, and therefore, we would ask that your child does not, in the interest of safety, wear earrings to school. Earrings MUST be removed on days when your child has a PE session or covered with micropore tape.
The school cannot accept responsibility for any items of jewellery lost or damaged in school.
*P.E. Kit
All children will require the following items of P.E. Kit. (All items should be clearly marked with your child’s name).
- Black or dark-coloured trainers
- Black joggers/leggings
- Normal school T-shirt and jumper/cardigan
In the interests of safety, all children with long hair MUST have their hair tied back for a P.E. lesson.
Lost Property
All items of clothing MUST be clearly marked with your child’s name. With so many children wearing similar clothes, it is easy for them to get mixed up. This causes upset for both children and parents. Clothes which are named clearly are much easier to reunite with their owners!
Any clothing which is not claimed, will be kept in classrooms until the end of each half-term, then laundered for our pre-loved uniform scheme or donated to charity.
Toys
Toys should not be brought to school except under special circumstances, with the prior permission of the class teachers.
