We are Crowdfunding for an exciting new project
We are excited to inform you about the increased collaboration and commitment from Mrs McSherry and Miss Wilkinson to create an outstanding learning experience at our two fabulous schools. We have been having meetings regularly since January and are passionate and dedicated in our aim to ensure a truly nurturing ‘Portway’ experience is at the heart of our school community.
We are busy working in the background to achieve much more as a team which will benefit all of the children from Reception, through to Year 6. In the future, this will include joint staff meetings and Inset Days so that the pupils get the absolute best from having two Heads planning and preparing their children’s education and helping to ensure a seamless transition between our two schools.
The most significant collaboration, at this point, will be in the introduction of Forest Schools into the curriculum. We would like this to become an embedded and full time provision, working across the school’s grounds with a September 2021 start date, depending on any restrictions that may be in place around Covid. We have attached Forest Schools Provision FAQ’s for further information. We are sure you will agree that now, more than ever, allowing children the opportunity to engage with the outdoors by taking their learning outside will be of huge benefit particularly when we are lucky to have such beautiful grounds to share. Research shows that Forest Schools increase confidence, motivation, social and physical skills as well as knowledge and understanding of the surrounding natural environment.
In line with this, we are hoping to hold fund raisers throughout the year to benefit the children and improving the provision at both schools. The first event is a family friendly car boot, provisionally booked (Covid restrictions allowing) for Saturday 3rd July at 10 am to take place on the school grounds. Families can get in touch by emailing Portway Infant School email@example.com if you are interested in holding a ‘stall’ on the day. The cost will be £10 per car or £5 per large table top (supplied by school if required). We welcome not only car boot ‘bric a brac’ but also any crafts or other products you may wish to sell. ALL funds raised from joint fundraisers, or donated to the newly established Just Giving page will go towards purchasing an outdoor canopy cover for the Forest Schools project so the rainy weather is no barrier to the children’s learning. We will also purchase quality tools and weatherproof clothing to enhance the children’s learning experiences.
The QR code for the Just Giving page is on the next page or you may use the following link to donate.
We look forward to many fun-filled joint ventures, fuelled with your support and enthusiasm too. We welcome any thoughts or suggestions and look forward to working more closely with all of the Portway families in the community in the future.
