We had lots of fun finding out all about our new friends by sharing our brown bags and sharing our stories about our summer holidays and the different places we went to in the summer!
Our new topic is Land Ahoy. In Geography, we have been learning about different maps and symbols and we even made our own pirate treasure map! We have also been learning about the different oceans and continents that are in our world and how we would locate them on a map.
In our History lessons, we have learnt lots of interesting facts about Christopher Columbus and Ellen McArthur, including what made them famous explorers.
As part of our learning in R.E, we went on a school trip to the Geeta Bhawan Hindu Temple in Normanton. We learnt lots of different things about the Hindu temple and know that it is important we take our shoes off when entering the temple to show respect.
We got to take part in a morning prayer and even got to try some Hindu clothing on!
In English we have started to learn lots of different information using non-fiction Castle books. We have been learning about different features in a non-fiction book including subheadings, photographs, drawings, labels, captions and fact boxes and seeing if we can identify these on the Castle information pages.
We have started our new topic by having a 'Castle Day'. This has helped us to engage with and explore lots of different Castle information books, different types of castles and we even got to attend a Year 2 medieval banquet and have fun trying some medieval dancing!
We have been learning that there are three different types of castles: Motte and Bailey, Stone Keep and Concentric Castles. In History, we have placed these on a timeline and wrote some of the features of each type of castle.
